As the author clearly states, " This is not a comprehensive "How-To," but rather is an example of permaculture as it is applied to one site during the planning phase." I was looking for actual design plans and drawings to get a feel for how a real world Permaculture setup is created. This Kindle booklet clearly explains the drawings created to use as a plan for implementing a Permaculture setup in a humid subtropic location. Even though I do not live in such a location, just the opposite, I live in New England, I found this book to be just what I was looking for, a clearly explained, drawn and documented site plan.A 10-Acre Permaculture Project was everything I was looking for and the price was the best part.
Although short, the design plan for a 10 acre farm in southern Louisiana provides food for thought. Since we have problematic water issues, the greywater and runoff management ideas were helpful, and I enjoyed the beautifully drawn maps.Especially helpful was the year by year implementation at the end. I think many of us try to dive in too quickly, and spending the first couple of years just growing cover crops to improve the soil is a much better idea.Highly recommended if you're looking for ideas for improving your own farm.
Very technical, not lazy beach reading. But it is very refreshing to find any resources at all that touch on permaculture in the humid subtropics. Short but interesting, and I am hanging onto it as a reference work. It's nice to know that if you live along the Gulf Coast and you're into Permaculture, you don't actually have to move away to "do permaculture." This is an early foray into the humid subtropics niche and I hope to see many more.
This is a site plan with a little bit of description. It's good if you have a site that is EXACTLY like this one. If you are wanting information about permaculture though, this book is not for you. Also, the drawings in this books are hand-drawn, hard to look at to me, and looks like something you would do as a child.Look at the page count for the book. I'm going to say that the pages average about 1/5 full of information. The rest is drawings that are hard to look at and empty space.
It's a site plan specifically tailored to a particular project. It is not supposed to be a guide, per se; however, one can use the principals and ideas that it proposes to produce your own site plan. Google and other resources can provide the specifics of each project, but the high level plan will tie it together and set out the order. From a project planning perspective, this could be the business case and high level requirements. I made a plan for my last homestead that was not as detailed. This has been inspirational and is helping me plan my next homestead.
A few interesting ideas, but a poor explanation and visual aid.I really want to build the grey water treatment pond he speaks about but would have no idea how to from this description..
As a project report this is reasonably done but it's not a book. The illustrations were too small to be seen on my kindle and when I clicked in them they wouldn't expand or take me to a viable link. The project itself is intriguing and I'm curious about how it's progressed.
