I picked up this book from the local library and realized I needed to own it. I am a novice gardener and also new to Tennessee. The book contains information about frost dates, soil preparation, planting and more. There are brief sections on pesticides, pest prevention, and composting. However, the most helpful information is on the individual vegetables, herbs and fruits. Every plant is broken down: When to Plant, Where to Plant, How to Plant, Care and Maintenance, Additional Information, and Varieties. At the end of each section, there is a "More Interesting - " category. The information in this section tends to be less thorough. For example, I was interested in growing lavender, so I looked up "Lavender". It was located in the "More Interesting Herbs" portion of the book. There was only a small blurb about it so I had to consult the internet for more information. Only the most popular herbs are included in the regular section. Herbs like chamomile, lavender, and lemon balm are only briefly mentioned. I think the vegetable and fruit sections are more thorough.All-in-all, it's a great book for beginners. I have used it a lot this year as I've prepared my first garden. I imagine I will be consulting it for many more years also.

My husband requested a gardening book for Christmas and after reading several reviews; I decided to order this one. He has loved it. He states that the guide is easy to read and not too much information. Great for the backyard gardener.

This book is very simple to follow and inspires you to grow all sort of vegetables and fruit in your garden!
