This is a great resource book for people living along the Gulf coast. The heat and humidity can zap plants quickly--this book lets you know which ones can stand the heat, and which ones cannot. At the end of each section is a great list of plants, that are broken down into different areas. If you want a tree for fall color, it has a list of those. Spring flowering? It's in there. You want shrubs that will do well in full sun? Got it. Is your yard shady? It's got a list for that.Best of all, it has a list for plants to avoid. It also has a handy calendar for your 'to do' list each month.Very thorough and comprehensive.

I really like this book because it is about local plants of the area. The colors are great as are the descriptions of the plants. I have been able to identify plants that I have and did not know the names of. This is the second book we have purchased from this Author.

The Colored pictures are a great help. Could have gone into more detail on specific plants for the gulf area.

Garrettt provides succinct information in an easily accessible manner. Photographs are lovely and leave no question about plant identification. It is an excellent guide as well as reference.

Howard knows his stuff, and this book gives great advice and has great pics.If you planing a landscape for your yard in Houston, or Zone 9 areas get this book

This is a great book with nice pictures and very helpful info. The book was wrapped in plastic to keep it from getting damaged.
