since i was nine years old i wanted to whittle a whistle. i could not ever quite get the hang of it. 50 minutes after opening my package i had a wooden whistle that would whistle. impress your friends, families and kids.
This is a good book for someone wanting to learn how to make things with a small knife.Nice way to spend time making something useful.A almost lost art which my Grandfather used but I never got to learn from him.I still have the dogwood whistle he made me over 40 years ago.
There are several really good books for beginners who want to learn to whittle. This is one of them. Another is The Little Book of Whittling by Chris Lubkemann. These books are filled with illustrations and detail to help the beginner safely whittle.Wiebe's book offers several whistle projects, and, after all, the whistle is a great project for whittling, carving an object a child can enjoy and treasure - Wiebe provides step by step projects for no less than seven types of whistles. Even learning how to make one or two types would make the book worthwhile.Wiebe devotes 17 of the book's 60 pages to the essentials of how to choose a good whittling pocket knife, how to sharpen, and most importantly, how to safely make the whittling cuts.I look forward to making whittled whistles and toys for my grandchildren, and teaching them to whittle when they're old enough.
Great book for beginner whittlers. Me and my son have already made some things out of this book. easy and fun.

Very basic book on whittling whistles. The best part of the book is the first chapter that teaches how to sharpen your knife. Some of the pictures are too dark to see what is being illustrated.
Book is kinda lame. The title should be "whittlin' one type of whistle and a couple others that are pretty much the same thing"
