I found the book to be very shallow. I have been using smart things for about eight months, on both v1 and v2 of the hub. Most of the information was consistent with my experience, but there were a few gaps.
It's a quick read ... because there's not much to it. There are also numerous errors in the book. I didn't find anything in the book that isn't freely available on the web.
This book is a great first place to dip your toe in the water of smartthings and smart living. Mr. O'Driscoll compiles the essential tips and required processes for a smooth setup using ST products. I also appreciate the links to more in depth concepts which broaden ST capabilities. I highly recommend this book as a great starting point.!
This reads more like a Samsung setup guide. I was hoping for more real examples of configurations and a more complete list of devices that are supported. And, I think that Echo will be the future. Little attention was given on how this is setup.
