Residential Construction Academy: HVAC (Residential Construction Academy Series)

Create a direct link between your education/training program and the residential construction industry! Training materials are now available for many of the residential crafts based on skill standards developed by the nation's leading builders and educators. The result of a strategic partnership between the National Association of Home Builder's Home Builders Institute and Delmar, the Residential Construction Academy Series is the perfect way to teach essential workplace skills to people new to the building trades. Delmar is a part of Cengage Learning. Based on national skill standards, this full-color, comprehensive HVAC book is intended for aspiring technicians and covers the installation, startup, and service of residential air conditioning and heating systems. The first section explores matter, energy, heat, and the basic refrigeration processes, with a view towards building a working knowledge of the behavior of heat and how it is transferred. Detailed information on safety issues and the system installation process follows, with step-by-step procedures that clearly illustrate the key skills needed to properly install a system. The startup and service section shows readers the steps that must be followed to make certain that airflow through the system is correct and that the amount of refrigerant in the system is within an acceptable range. Coverage concludes with the installation and service of oil, gas, electric, and geothermal heating systems, as well as boilers, hydronic heating, and radiant heating.

By far the best book on HVAC when it comes to my personal collection. I work in HVAC and i have been scrambling to find a book that can actually help me in the field, and this one was it (i probably spent like thousands already in books and cds before this). The reason this book is so well done is because of organization and its ability to explain a hard field in easy terms. In other books they structure the topics differently, like motors would be a chapter- but in this book, it has chapters on Installation, Service, and commissioning. This is FAR more easier to follow and understand this way. My weak spot was Installation and it explained it in a very simple manner - no big flashy words, and its straight to the point. They have a lot of small details that are missed with other books. It doesnt go over commercial systems like cooling towers, but thats probably what gave it the space to be so detailed in the first place, and commercial systems can be covered elsewhere. Best book on HVAC. I gave it a 4 because it appears some of the illustrations captions are out of order, making some of it hard to follow.

This is a very good book for HVAC, covers a lot of the bases in reasonable detail. What I don't like however are the materials used for the book itself, especially the glossy paper which gets hard to read due to light reflections. Additionally the paper used is exceedingly thin, so you have to be very careful turning pages so it doesn't crinkle or tear. Couldn't imagine carrying this book out in the field if any wind at all is blowing or with the sun out. The trade cloth cover however is fine, seems robust enough to protect the book from wear and tear. You'll also find a few typos in the book but not anything out of the ordinary.

I was going to take a community education class at the local community college so I got this book. The class was then cancelled. I do fix it work. HVAC is my weakest area. I have found this very educational and practical even in my very limited amount of fix it work. Recently a friend had a blower not work on his gas furnace. Using what I had read plus taking more time to read more and some internet search for wire diagrams I could figure out what relay was bad

This book is excellent...... it describes things in an easy to understand, step by step manner of speaking (not in a way that you need a PhD to comprehend.) Has tons of great information for PRACTICAL APPLICATION. Plus a lot of great visual aids

Book Was very helpfull . Lots of photos of equipment showing lots of info, I would recomend to others. A must for HVAC students

I am in a six week training for HVAC and all the information they are training me is with in this book plus more. Highly recommended book if you already have some knowledge with the system.

Order was delivered quickly and it was in excellent shape. Very happy. Thank you.
