Funny and informative!This book is a definite go to for anyone building their dream home! There is tons of information inside to not only help you identify and cope with potential problems that may arise, but also help enable you to communicate better what you want and what you expect. This book was very easy to read, as it entertained me while helping me learn this process. Five stars for me!

So goes the advice of the Chubby Builder. A custom home design should be about getting one's unique desires in an efficient , affordable and appealing manner. I enjoyed reading Chub's flavorful version of both good and bad experiences. His honest comment, "don't mess with people like me who only takes on custom projects when specs aren't selling well" make me wish him the very best as a writer. I have already recommended this to a couple of friends thinking about building their dream home. Easy read but loaded with sound advice!
I buy stuff on here all the time and never remember or get around to writing a review. This book though was great. We are looking to build soon and the information was great and written in a way you wanted to read it. I have started a couple of others and they are over simplified with a bit of a pretentious tone. If you are going to build a house buy this book!!
This book is a good way to set your expectations. It is unlikely that I will follow all recommendations, but knowing how builder thinks and their frame-of-mind/responsibilities is an excellent information.
very informative book. author was humorous. didn't realize having a home was so complex. if you have a lot of patience, having a home built is very rewarding, and you get what you want. The author also warns his readers about unscrupulous contractors, & things that could go wrong or delay your house project.
Thank you for writing a book that any person who is not familiar with the building industry can read and understand. We are in the process of getting ready to build a new home. We are newbies at this and my father taught me to research, research, research. I found your book on and downloaded it to my Kindle. Well realizing that eventually we will be out in the woods of Michigan with no internet talking with builders, I then went ahead an ordered a hard copy of your book because it was so informative.Thank you for keeping all the fluff out of the book and getting right to the point. It made the process for us less daunting and we feel we will go into meetings feeling confident we have the understanding of some of the "Contractors Talk"
A must read for anyone who is considering or is starting to build a house. The information in this book will help you identify read flags and address issues before they become big problems. There is a glossary of terms that will help you communicate with your contractor or subs more efficiently. It is easy to ready, funny at times and most importantly will save you headaches and money!
