Reading Melinda Myer's Month-by-Month Gardening in Minnesota is a complete joy. She spells out a game plan for gardening year round. If you're from Minnesota or nearby, this volume is invaluable. Even during the coldest months, Melinda recommends things to do to get ready for the full blown gardening seasons spring, summer, and fall. I love the way she talks to me in your writing; not talking down to me. The way it's designed is completely user-friendly year 'round. The quality of the pages, print, photos and information exceeds my expecations. It seems to have something for every MN gardener!
I am a novice gardener, and have found this book to be very helpful. It's divided into chapters including perennials, annuals, trees, shrubs, roses, and more. Then within those chapters is a month by month guide on how and when to plant them, fertilize them, care for them, etc. I like that there are also things written for the winter months so that you can always somehow be connected to your garden, even when it's cold and dark outside! A great guide and easy to understand. I recommend it!
It is the BEST garden book you can buy to maximize the short growing season MN offers. It is the most concise book I have purchased for gardening in MN. HIGHLY recommend.
I only started gardening two years ago and so many times I find myself wondering about when the right time to do stuff is. This book answers all of those questions for Minnesota gardeners. When the right time is to prune, plant or fertilize different plants. This book also does a great job of listing what plants work well in the Minnesotan climate. This has been one of my best gardening book purchases.
I am making a landscape plan for my son in MN and thought this would help with plant sellection. It did not. There were some plants listed for the region but it was almost too basic. I might be good for someone just starting into gardening.
