The CERM is the only real resource from Lindeburg. The rest is just filler for added bonuses, none of the questions were similar to what I saw on the exam.
I bought this to take right before the PE but when I opened the book I realized it was the exact same problems and format as the earlier edition. I returned the book thankfully, but I thought it was false advertising to change the cover but keep the material the exact same.
I've been studying and I got around to taking this practice test (after first taking the practice test sold by NCEES). I have to say that this sample is more challenging and seems to be focused on the afternoon portion (which is a good balance). In contrast to the author's description, this exam is NOT the most realistic practice exam - the NCEES exam is. Many of the questions required equations from god-knows-what-reference - at least one environmental question required an equation that was nowhere to be found in the 1500-page Metcalf and Eddy text. I took the morning and water resources and environmental practice exam, failed it, freaked out for months, then got a 78/80 on the NCEES practice exam two weeks ahead of the PE (I think I could have gotten at least a 70/80 if I had taken the exam at the same time as the PPI sample exam), and ultimately felt very comfortable walking out of the NCEES exam. The PPI questions are easily much harder than what you will see on the actual PE and in discussing the sample exam's value with other engineers, we have come to the conclusion that the main purpose of the PPI exam is to scare you into buying more PPI materials.
This exam is way harder than the actual PE. The NCEES sample exam is more realistic. Don't freak out as I did, if it takes you forever to do the problems and fail. The problems are more complex and take longer but they are good practice. For example you might have to use five different equations to get an answer and look up values in the back, where on the NCEES you may only need one or two eqns and they give you the constants to use. Also the versions are all the same, I bought this one and the newer edition but no change. Buy the cheapest one!
