This is a great DVD to accompany the book of the same name. He shows the techniques he talks about in the book but goes into more detail. I would highly recommend this video.

This book and its corresponding DVD are 2 of the best resources of woodcarving i have studies. David Sabol is remarkably understanbdable and his information is very useful for anybody who carves or wants to carve wood.

Wonderful. Informative and Interesting. Explains in an informative and entertaining manner - several styles of woodcarving - e.g. relief carving - carving in the round. Chips fly as forms take shape before one's eyes. Everything for a Forest Spirit (Cottonwood Bark) to a Duck Decoy. Simple techniques - (taking a photograph and tracing over it with carbon paper to produce a pattern on wood) - turned into elegant works of art.

We bought it to introduce our grandson to wood carving. The video on CD discussed a wonderful variety of techniques and styles, along with a good idea of the range of tools needed for each. As an overview it was wonderful. If you want to learn each style and technique, you will most likely need to add supplemental material for each style and technique.

I have enjoyed reading the book, it is full of great tips for the beginning carver. I would recommend it to anyone interested in carving.
