I haven't even finished reading this book yet, but I wanted to let people know, if they are concerned, that, while there are a lot of behavioral suggestions in here that is excellent, the book is not ALL about behavior. *I* think the "outsmarting" idea comes from the need to have something unique in the title. There are quite a few "cat books" out there now. This book does have a lot of unique information in it that is not all behavioral, for example, there are many more fascinating details about each of kitty's anatomical systems than one usually finds in a "cat book." She makes it all very interesting. One of my favorite parts is based on a study of HOW a cat drinks water. What the tongue does, how fast it moves, how does it get the water into the cat's mouth, etc.Something else I noticed is that the book was first published in at the beginning of the 2000s and was republished in 2013. I think that a lot was renewed in terms of disciplinary approaches (very gentle, very kind but consistent. Doesn't approve of, for example, a mat that you put on the counter that shocks the cat when he jumps up there. As in "Don't ambush your cat! You want him to feel safe!") There are also new "resources." Where to get products, what products she recommends. I found it annoying, however, that nothing is said about how and what etc is updated from the first book to this one. I'm giving it 5 stars. I think you could use this as your main "go to" cat book, or you could use it as an addition. My "go to" cat book is "Think Like a Cat," by Pam Johnson-Bennett, but this one is delightful and I don't find it repetitive. And I really would never CALL it "outsmarting cats.
