After falling in love with Rosemary's Garden at Barnsley House, we returned wanting to know how it was created. This book captures her garden with wonderful photos and explanations of her whole approach to garden landscaping using materials she found near and far. The parterre kitchen garden and Yellow Laburnum walk are replicated in countless garden books, but the originals and plans are here!
I discovered this book in our local library and realized this was one I wanted for my personal library. It's a book that I'll read through over and over again. I also own all the P. Allen Smith books. Whenever the seasons change, I pull out my gardening books to get new ideas and be inspired all over again!
Yes! Rosemary was a great gardener, and this is a great book about her famous garden, my favorite. I met her over a glass of wine, just a year before her death. She invited me to come see her garden but, sadly, the visit never happened. She was intelligent, witty, and animated . . . and as you will see, a very fine writer. Often, on cloudy, wintry days, or evenings, I will return to her book, remembering her voice as I escape for a short time into the wonderful world she created.
