I have mixed feelings about this book. It is a typical Al Streetman book (and that's a good thing) that is filled with patterns. I just really dislike how he builds the wings with a thin plywood. I think i will just carve a more 3D wing profile and modify the pattern myself. It's not a real big deal, but I kind of feel like the flat wings are a lazy approach and that's why I dont give this book a high rating.But dont get me wrong, it does have a lot of patterns. The finished gallery is also a little light on photos of finished carvings.
The author assumes the reader has both knowledge of working with wood and the tools to do so. If you are interested in beginning whittling, you'll have to look elsewhere for help.
All my need were exceeded.
