This is the textbook that I used in teaching the MBA course in Project Management. PM concepts such as SOW, WBS, CPM, Gantt chart, RFP, were covered in details. The concept on scheduling and timeline, late start, late finish, early start, early finish was brilliant! Examples were very clear. MS Project trial version is enclosed with the book. On the other hand, you can download from MS website, free for 30 days.The only drawback of this book is heavily on engineering projects.There was no financial, marketing, international or E-commerce project management. As the professor, I had to add my real-life experience to make it more interesting.
I was required to have this particular book for a course I am taking. This is the single most expensive textbook I have ever purchased for something so thin. If there were a ton of pages, it would not have been so bad...but again I am ripped off on the price. The content is inline with current beliefs and thoughts about the subject matter, it is well written, but if you do not have College level reading and comprehension, this is not the book for you. The book is very detailed and the end of chapter summaries again are very detailed-but you need to actually read the chapter to know what the summary is about.
The authors of this book claim alignment / correlation to the Project Management Body of Knowledge Guide (PMBOK0 in reality, EVM sections do not align with current terminology used by the PMI and other reference material. Had this textbook not been required for a class, I would have returned it ASAP when it was apparent that this book needs serious updates.
I bought this book for class and I guess it's ok. If you don't need the trial version software of MS Project, I suggest you buy the used version of it though. Not worth the $167 that I paid for it. As a matter of fact, I'd advise you to get the trial version online at microsoft.com and buy this book used.
If you are a project manager looking to improve on your craft this won't help. Overloaded with general and generic advice. I felt as if I was reading a cover bands version of the PMBOK.If you are a student and paying for your own education, I'm sorry the system has failed you. The cursory overview this book provides isn't worth the amount of cash you are about to spend on it. A decent hour to two hour lecture could better prepare you for the real world.
Successful Project Management by Gido & Clements is a wonderfully up to date book for any and all situations. There is pertinent applicable project scenarios that can be applied to just about any level of project where you have project planning, implementation, structuring, funding/manning issues, and organizational issues. Much more content than I had expected. Easy to understand and quite readable. Well worth the look-see. Once again, ,and their sellers, has really come through for me in selection, price, availability, and fast delivery with ample shipping-speed options. Thank you Amamzon.
The book came quickly and in good condition, however the description was very misleading. It is titled "with Microsoft Project CD-ROM". This was an incorrect statement. I only received the book. I was not too unhappy b/c I did not need the CD for my class however if I had it would have been a problem b/c I thought I was receiving it. Came very quickly though.
This was the assigned text for a class I took. It was an excellent text book: clearly written, well organized, and easy to study. The key points jump off the page and are repeated for emphasis. What's more, this text is so valid that I have already begun to use it at work, and expect it will remain in my reference library for a long time. It is a rare textbook that is worth it's price.
