I adopted a mini (7 months old) from our local animal shelter in May 2009 after my mixed breed rat terrier passed away. My previous dog was older when I adopted her and had many health problems throughout her life. I have never had a puppy before, so I didn't know what to expect. I also wanted as much medical information as possible. This book is geared towards the purebred dog, esp AKC registered, but has much info that is very helpful for any mini. My vet thinks our mini is purebred, but you can never be sure. The most helpful things I found in this book were the health information (ESP the eye disease info) and the first aid and grooming recommendations. I also own the mini book by Terra Nova. I really suggest both because the Terra Nova book goes into much more detailed info on overall characteristics. This book gives a long detailed history of the mini and a lot of info for showing your dog, neither of which I am interested in. But, the book is well worth the purchase for the eye disease knowledge alone, as it mentions more health issues than the Terra Nova did. I would definitely purchase this book again and felt it very worthwhile to read.
Miniature Schnauzer (Kennel Club Dog Breed Series)This is the best information I've seen yet for the miniature schnauzer. Better information on the breed than other books I have read, which just says this breed is a terrier. Explains puppy behavior very well. Easy to read. For first time dog/puppy owners, I recommend reading this book before purchasing/adopting the canine.
Having a schnauzer this book is wonderful it explains what all schnauzer owners need to know from health to grooming. It also, explains the dogs behavior and training of a schnauzer telling where the breed comes from which was Germany. With this information more research can be obtained about this breed.
This is a great book for the new owner of Schnauzer and there a few new points I have learned. But, there is nothing like having a Schnauzer for a few years and finding out the joys of having a loyal companion. For me the book is a four, but others who are new would probably give it a five.
It has been many years since we have owned a dog, and never a Schnauzer! He is all personality and a bit "stubborn"! We fell in love, immediately. This book has been very informative for us. We needed to know the idiosyncrasies of the breed, and what to expect. He is our TREASURE!
This is a great book to establish everything you should know to understand this very intelligent breed. It also establishes the minimum maintenance that this very special breed deserves.
This is very comprehensive and a great reference about Miniature Schnauzers. I wish they had a bit more on general health though. Other than that, a great book that I would recommend!
