The book is well ilustrated and printed on heavy paper. The information provided is very basic, and may appeal to someone who has never used an airbrush. I have been a modeller for many years, but I have never used an air-brush before. Even then, there were only a few new techniques that I found in the book. If you are looking to add to your skills, this is not the book for you. You may want to buy this book to see if you would be interested in air-brushing, and wanted some idea of what it involves. Very little information on how to choose an airbrush, what type of paints to use, how to clean up after use, etc.
This book does not cover anything about actually using an airbrush, aside from describing the difference between a single action and dual action brush is says nothing useful about using one. Many examples of projects but little information on how do do them.I wanted a book that would teach me how to buy a air gun, choose the type of paint, mix the paint and spay it, this is not that book. What a waste of money!
Great book. I recommend it as a a complement to "The Basics of Scale Modeling (also from FineScale Modeler Books)" on the more detail topic airbrushing.But please be aware that I only recommend this one or "Painting and Finishing" (from FineScale Modeler Books).I've bought the two and 50% of the contents/projects are shared between both.
Okay this book is one of the better ones I have seen. It does have some real flaws though. For example, it fails to talk about basic things like how to do masking. It does make one reference to it but it is a passing comment on painting a car to prevent paint over spray, but does not say much else. I was told this book would be good for someone just starting to learn but it assumes that you have some basic ideas and such on using an airbrush. IF you do than it is a good book to get. If you are a newbie like me just starting out you might want to wait and get this book later. Over all it is a good book, but just not for anyone just starting out. PS : Even being new to airbrushing this author has some great car techniques.
I've never used an airbrush before so I am sure the information in this book will come in very handy. I'm going to try my hand at modeling again for the first time in around 45 years and want a better paint job than you get using a brush.
After some many years away from the hobby, I have decided to get back into model building and was looking for a book that would help me with the basics of using an airbrush. I wanted information on proper paint viscosity, air pressure, equipment selection, paint selection, basic finishing methods (do I prime the entire model before I paint with color and how is the best way to clean the model before painting). Sadly I don't see anything that I can equate with my almost nil knowledge of current products and techniques.While the text takes the reader through a number of different builds, my impression is that the author expects the reader to have more basic knowledge than I do.All in all. it's probably a useful book for someone with more skill and knowledge than I currently have and hopefully I'll find it of more use as I gain some of those skills.
I was hoping that this book would explain what the title implies. Unfortunately this book has nothing about mixing ratios, air pressure setting, or paint flow settings other than to say that they are important and that you should "experiment" to find what works best for you. It is more about the authors method and what materials he uses to paint models. That is fine but the title should be "How to Paint Models". Very disappointed.Chris Knowlton
This is a good book, if it weren't for the directions that come with any airbrush kit. Nothing new, so save a few bucks and move on to the master modeler books with many more tips on how to use the airbrush more effectively...or simply use the trial and error method...
