this is a copy of a cook book I have been using for over 40 years and is falling apart.the only problem I have with it is my original has a spirale ring and is easy to open and lay flat on the counter.this copy is very stif to open,not nearly as handy.
I received my copy of this book in the 80's… Mom mom had hers from the 60's, and Grandma had one, too. My spriral-bound treasure was starting to fall apart from years of use, so I was excited to see this reprint. Upon its arrival, I was very disappointed to find that it is not spiral-bound like earlier editions. I would have taken it to be rebound if only the centre margin was left wide enough for a binding. *sigh* I dragged out my tried-and-true copy, the one with the pages falling out, and started using it again.
I bought it to replace the one my Mom had given me about twenty years ago. Mine was so dog eared that many pages were missing. My daughter wanted the book so I decided to see if it could be replaced. I only wish it were larger since my eyesight isn't what it used to be.
the first thing i do not like about it, compared to the one i have, is it doesn't stay open, # 2 no pictures for the recipe, some items missing, example, Prize Pizza, the dough is the same but no recipe for sause, like the old one, well when i return home in the Yukon shortly will have to make sure i take care of my old version mine is priceless, compared to what i received, and i got my first one for free,
I have grown up with this recipe book and treasure it. I have probably bought over 100 books and I still go back to this one often. This recipe book is geared more towards bakers and I won't ever look for another butter tart recipe than the one in this book. It was created by the Five Roses flour company and has excellent bread recipes and great black & white photos. An oldie but a very goodie!
I have had my original copy for 40 years! My aunt gave it to me as a wedding shower gift as a teenager. I still use it for basic classic recipes and it has a lot of good information for a little book. My daughter uses it now, I ordered a new copy to replace the well used one, just wish it had the original spiral binding, as it is more convenient.
I am disappointed because the recipes are not all identical to the ones in my older edition. The pages are also smaller and there are no colour photographs that add personality to the book. It is also missing the wire ring binding that my older edition had. It cannot lay flat on the table and this makes it difficult to read and follow recipes while cooking.
I HAD ONE OF THESE COOK BOOKS THAT MY NANNY GAVE ME WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER AND IT HAS BEEN SO WORN OUT AND PAGES FALLING OFF AND I HAVE HAD A WAR WITH MY DAUGHTERS TRYING TO KEEP IT IN MY HOUSE. LOL WELL I GOT IT BACK AND FOUND NEW ONE'S SO I CAN GIVE THEM BOTH ONE OF THERE VERY OWN. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS COOK BOOK FOR YEARS AND HERE IT IS SO GREAT TO FIND IT. THIS IS SO WELL WORTH IT AND THE SMALL TIME I HAD TO WAIT FOR IT. I LOVE THIS BOOK AND YOU WOULD TO IF YOU LOVE TO COOK OR BAKE THINGS ... SO MANY GREAT RECEIPIES SUCH AS THE BANANA NUT LOAF YOU WILL LOVE IT.
