During the history of aviation there have been very few aircraft that have achieved immediate success when entering front-line service. The de Havilland Mosquito was one such aircraft. It was not designed to an RAF requirement, but was the result of an initiative of the designers and builders to utilize the skills of woodworkers and the relative abundance of wood in the crisis years of World War II. The result was an airplane that could be built quickly, was extremely fast and extremely versatile. The pilots loved it.This book describes how it was built and utilizes many hitherto unpublished photographs from the design studio and production lines. It illustrates and explains the many different roles that the aircraft took as the war progressed. Fighter, bomber, reconnaissance, night fighter – there were few tasks that this brilliant design could not adopt.

As a WW2 history buff, I was disappointed after reading some of the other kindle books about the Mosquito, and bought this one with some reservation. But, I am happy to say that this book makes a fine reference regarding the history and statistics of an aircraft with unexpectedly flexible abilities.
A very good description of the design, construction, and operations of the "Mossie". The design and construction sections are particularly good as they do a great job of describing in detail its unusual wood based construction. The section on operations is also excellent. The only negative I have is that, as is fairly typical, the illustrations in the Kindle edition are pretty small.
As the "book description" states, the author provides a brief overview of the Mosquito aircraft development and operational history. A bibliography provides reference to information sources. This second edition is a handy item for quick references. Excellent index. Unfortunately, the author trusted an unreliable source for the USAAF 25th Bomb Group Rcn history and marred this production with misinformation and errors. All researchers are forewarned to investigate official OSS and USAAF files for verification of accuracy before quoting the 25th BG operations from this book.
This is the ideal book for trainspotters of the air. It contains an immense amount of technical detail regarding the design and construction of this machine, the various versions produced and where they were employed. As is usual, the many photos included were pretty well useless on my basic version of Kindle and the book consequently lost some of its potential interest.As a record of facts and figures it is a remarkable achievement, but it falls well short of a riveting read for those not anally obsessed with model and registration numbers.
of course the Mosquito is a famous plane with a wonderful history but this book takes it to a new level. For those of us interested in the detail of this marvelous aircraft, there is, if anything too much, but by far this is the best book I have read on the topic.it is an aircraft buff's history, not a light read for the casually interested.
Very good book about the Iconic aircraft. I didn't give the book 5 stars because it tended to give a little too much information on manufacturing and I would have liked more anecdotal information on its use in WWII.
