Tim Swanson's Great Chain of Numbers is a fantastic review of the currently (May 2014) state of Bitcoin 2.0 ventures. As we head into arguably the most exciting period of cyptocurrency development, this ebook provides a great overview of the premise behind digital currencies, the current state of the technology and the burgeoning Bitcoin 2.0 ventures such as Mastercoin, Coloured Coin, Ethereum and Counterparty.More than anything, however, it provides excellent insight from many of the leading thinkers and actors in the cryptocurrency space, including Adam Levine of Lets Talk Bitcoin, Nick Szabo, Vitalik Buterin, Mike Hearn and the heads/lead devs of many of the featured projects. While the work is perhaps a little long, the content is excellent. We'll likely look back on this time as the period when crypto became empowered to be more than simply a payment protocol and digital currency. This book captures the moment well. This should be THE BOOK on your list if you're considering Bitcoin and the cryptocurrency space.
It's more a compendium than a book that deep explores the subject. I'd rather spend my time reading something with a clear goal in mind, like explaining a few set of opportunities in deep, than this one that takes the entire universe of cryptocoins and blockchains with shallow explanations on how things would work.
Great book, ahead of it's time. Tim Swanson should stop saying nLockTime when he just means "time". Using an internal variable name to describe something trite feels like an annoying attempt to be edgy.Tim Swanson seems also too ready to uncritically accept the claims of them many projects he talks about.
There is lots of information here, and the author has done tons of research. The book, however, is a confusing mess in dire need of some professional editing.
Thanks Tim. I borrow this from a friend. I am hoping he'll forget. Jk.
