I have just returned this e-book. It is not at all what I was looking for...a real guide on how to create and care for a bonsai tree.No real instructions; for example told which wire to use when wiring a branch but not why,not how. Three types of pruners to buy but no good examples of when to use. (Ex. one makes a concave dimple in stub..Why? When needed?) There was some good info in there but not enough and not detailed enough. The sections at the back seemed better with relevant care needs for particular trees.
This ebook will be of great help to the bonsai enthusiast and newbie alike. In this ebook the author imparts great knowledge and important insight into the creation of bonsai from nursery plants. The author Charles Mashburn does indeed have many years of hands on bonsai creation experience to his credit. This book is comprehensive in scope of knowledge and love for the art of bonsai. The author uses a narrative style that is easy to follow and understand. The book was a pleasure to read as the information was well organized and had a natural flow. I found the book to be inspiring and motivational, it brings bonsai within reach of the novice gardener who is ready to follow the lead of the author. Dig in, get your hands dirty and create bonsai. This author truly has done the work of creating bonsai and this book is worthy of your attention.
A very concise manual for the beginner, with photos to make the written instruction clearer.The only critisim is the Kindle version is only monochrome and having the photos at the end of each chapter required a lot of back-paging to fully see the point that was being made.This book will be refered to repeatedly.
I really enjoyed this new online book. It was easy to read and comprehend. Great way to start learning about bonsai, I have been watching this authors You-Tube video's and really enjoy these..
This is a solid book, especially when it comes to starting a Bonsai from Nursery stock (as the name indicates). It isn't super in-depth, bot for a novice/beginner this book is great and it does provide a simplistic approach to cultivating nursery stock. If you're looking for something with a bit more depth to it, I'd suggest one of the many "Complete" guides to Bonsai which cover everything from propagation from seedlings to listing numerous species suitable for Bonsai. Again, this is a great book for beginner and useful in starting a bonsai from most common nursery stock (however, if you're looking for a species specific soil mixture or a specific styling guide I'd suggest looking else where).
Loved charles mashburns book very glad I found his videos on YouTube and then looked him up and found this book I'm what I believe to be pretty great beginner bonsai enthusiast and moving very fast and he definitely gave me a lot of necessary info
Well illustrated introduction to what I call mock bonsai- you can have fun without waiting 5-10 years for your plant to develop.
Good basic bonsai book. The back section covering most trees used for bonsai is excellent and very helpful.
