This book contains a lot of good information - but did not include enough accurate information concerning Windows 7 and Virtual PC in chapter 3. For this book to be as recently published as it is (and a 4th edition) - i would've thought the information would've been more in-depth concerning the latest Windows operating systems. As far as virtual PC is concerned - it focuses mainly on using Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, which isn't the latest version of Virtual PC and MS Virtual PC 2007 isn't compatible with Windows 7.
This book is does not cover Windows 10, so this edition is outdated.This textbook covers way too many topics in too few pages. A 40 page chapter on Mac OS X is not enough to provide students a working knowledge of the OS. It is spread too thin, and the authors seem to even apologize about this at the beginning of many chapters. The history of operating systems presented in chapter 1 is a joke. The Troubleshooting Windows chapter does not provide a systematic approach to solving problems.There has got to be a better textbook than this one. Professors, don't use this book with your class.
I needed this book for my college course. I had planned to buy the print edition, however, I was pressed for time. I am very glad I bought the eBook version. The search function has proven essential to quickly finding keywords. I would very well have struggled with my course without this version. This is a very big book and it is very well-designed.The design is very appealing and the content is complete and easy to learn from. There is a lot of content, a lot of terms, and a lot of how-tos. This makes the book a great resource outside of and in-class.
Too simplistic, and barely touches tablet/phone operating systems
This Book as a great overview for a highlevel understanding of operating systems and functionality. It doesn't really get too far into the nitty gritty of operating systems and administering them, but a great overview that can be very beneficial for individuals new to computers or technology.
This is exactly what I needed. The delivery was on time. The vocabulary page at the end of the chapter is very helpful for me to go back and review the definitions. The step by step is very informative and easy to follow.
Was decent as far as textbooks go, but some of the text was unclear and badly organized.
Some pages where folded, but its a good book by its content.
