I did every problem in this book twice a week before the test, I passed the exam.On its own it is not enough to study for the entire exam, but if you want to put what you learn to practice then I cannot recommend a better book.The only drawback is that its a bit pricey, perhaps 200-300 problems would make this a killer deal, not just $120.
I pretty much just went through this a couple times and studied the Cuomo principles of surveying book for the California PE. I studied for about 20 hours, which was admittedly review from a surveying course I took in college about 7 years back. I passed the test.
If you look at the PE exam website for CA, this is specifically mentioned that it is allowed. I quote, "Published reference materials entitled, "120 Solved Surveying Problems" for the California Special Civil Engineers Examination (CSSP) and "Civil Surveying Samples Examinations" for the California Special Engineering Surveying Examination (CSSE2) will be allowed." I used this book and thought it was very helpful. I passed the surveying exam on the first try using this book. [...]
I rehearsed for the Civil Engineering Survey Exam using this refernece and the PPI practice exam publication only to discover that the exam questions were hardly (if at all) anything like the problems presented in the book. I feel that I wasted alot of time preparing with these two refences.
There are many other sources were we can get problems and solutions for surveying. I thought for just 120 problems the price was a bit high.
