Here's what you need to know about this Pearson product. The book is fine and seems like an adequate book for teaching Java. However, what college students need to be aware of is there are other components that can be bundled with this book.One of these is MyProgrammingLab. You will either need to buy a book that includes the access code for this or purchase the code separately on the Pearson website. My son isn't actually using this part for his college class, so I can't speak about the quality of the actual product.There is also another portion called the Companion Website. I have been told that copies of the physical book come with the access code for this. If you buy the ebook, and there are several companies that put them out, it does NOT come with the companion website access code. You can try to purchase this on the Pearson site - except for the fact the the buy button doesn't actually work. Their tech support says this isn't their problem and you will have to contact customer service. However, my son was able to find a work around and managed to pay for the code.However, you do NOT get instant access. You have to wait for the code to be emailed to you within the next 24 hours. And by 24 hours they mean, you'll have to try contacting someone when you don't actually receive it. Again, tech support says not their issue that you didn't receive the code and you have to email customer support and wait for a response. In this case their automated email message says expect to hear back 3 days from now.College students need to be aware that the the ebook version sold by the Barnes and Noble campus bookstores doesn't include the code, even though you will be told they do. The ebook is by Yuzu (a Barnes and Noble company).
