Not at all what I expected. This book is not written for the weekend collector. This book is meant for someone whose income is wrapped up in buying and selling bottles. This tome does not cover the bottles that came from your great-grandmother or that neat bottle you found in the backyard when you were planting a tree. Do not waste your money if that is what you are looking for. If you want a clinical book to be able to classify bottles by the way their necks are shaped or the amount of bubbles in the glass this book will fit your needs well.
This gives me the basic bottles prices on old and new bottles and other items. It doesn't list the Coca-Cola bottles though. I was hoping it did. Hopefully when I start finding bottles some of them will be listed in this book. The book itself arrive on time and in good shape.
I'm new at the art of collecting bottles and wanted information. This book was easy to read and understand. Lots of photos and most inportant to me was plenty of history. I would recomend this book to any newbie in the market for bottles to collect!
Wound up with a collection of antique bottles from a relative, and this book is helping us determine which ones are more valuable, and the kind of values to anticipate. Great pictures.
I just received my copy of author Michael Polak's Antique Trader Bottles book and it is awesome. Polak is one of the most knowledgeable and helpful authorities on bottle collecting in the country. That fact shines through the entire book, especially the first 100 pages or so in which he shares bottle history and origin, detailed advice on how to dig for bottles, determining bottle value, advice for the beginner collector and much more. For sheer fun -- and amazement -- check out the chapter on Blake and Brent Cousins, Bottle Hunters of Hawaii. Their You Tube videos are incredible and well worth looking up. The book is beautifully designed, features hundreds of color images and includes a lot of great information in addition to values. I do wish there was a little more information on Avon bottles but that is a small quibble with an otherwise solid job. Whether you are only now getting interested in bottle collecting or have been involved in the hobby a long time, I highly recommend this book.
Michael Polak has done a wonderful job on the 7th edition of the "Bottles Identification & Price Guide." It's packed with information for beginning collectors, advanced collectors and everyone in between. Full color, clear images are key to bottle identification, and this book is filled with 700 of them, in addition to more than 5,000 listings with values. Bottle categories include Avon, Barber, Beer, Bitters, Flasks, Jim Beam, Medicine, Perfume, Soda and many more. Indices include bottle clubs, auction houses, museum and research sources, a glossary and detailed bibliography. The "Bottles Identification & Price Guide" is a priceless addition to the Antique Trader family of collector interest titles.
Bottle expert Mike Polak's latest masterpiece is the new Antique Trader Bottles Identification & Price Guide. Filled with hundreds of new, colorful pictures and updated listings and prices, this book is a must-have if you're a bottle collector or aficionado. Even if you have only a few old bottles that you've always wondered about--what kind of bottles they are, where they came from, how old they are, and what they're worth--you'll want this book. There are great sections on how bottles are made, digging for bottles in old outhouse sites (yes, outhouses!), and the latest bottle news, plus a special section on Hawaiian bottles. You can't miss with this book.
My dad likes to search yard sales and thrift stores for anything interesting. I got him this book so he would know what to look for while browsing. He loves the book and enjoys looking through it over and over again. Beautiful pictures.
