I am pleased Allen Coombes has been able to update and release this new book on Plant Names.Firstly he has moved away from the classical pronunciation he used in his previous book 'Dictionary of Plant Names' 1985 to give readers the commonly used pronunciation by English speakers for example Aesculus was (i-ku-lus) now (ees-kew-loos).Next he has given us the latest names of plants which were previously wrongly identified i.e. some Asters now Symphyotrichum and some Dicentra now Lamprocapnos. In fact this book is more up to date than the latest RHS Plant Finder.I have thoroughly enjoyed using this English authoritative book on plant names, and recommend it to all readers interested in plant names to add to their book shelves for constant reference.
